A bound reprinted manuscript of John Dee's Monas Hieroglyphica (The Hieroglyphic Monad). This work was one of Dee's enigmatic treatises on symbolic language. It was originally written in 1564 at Antwerp.
Considered an accomplished magician, the Monas is one of Dee's most arcane and esoteric works. In it he claims himself in possession of the most secret mysteries. He wrote it in twelve days while apparently in a mystical state: “[I am] the pen merely of [God] Whose Spirit, quickly writing these things through me, I wish and I hope to be.” He claims it will revolutionize astronomy, alchemy, mathematics, linguistics, mechanics, music, optics, magic, and adeptship.
The book is printed on 24lb. parchment paper and bound with metal chicago screws. It measures approx. 8.5" x 11" and contains numerous reproduced alchemical engravings. It is printed in a beautiful renaissance font.
